It's a New Year AGAIN!!!

Can you believe it? At times I thought 2010 was going to last forever, then suddenly it was over.  What did I accomplish during the last year?  Well, I took a little vacation to Albuquerque, NM in May. Didn't see much outside the hotel which was fine with me,because it was a convention for cloth dollmakers.
After returning from New Mexico, I had signed up to take a couple of classes at the Mesa Arts Center. In the spring I had rediscovered  the new to me, structure of classes and lower fees.  So I took a couple of classes during spring break, vowing to sign up for more after my trip. I took on flameworking(glass bead making) and fusing and slumping glass into plates, etc. I must say the flameworking bug bit me hard.  I went through withdrawl symptoms between summer and fall class start. There was a month off and it was hard waiting to get back and stare into the flame and try manipulating that glass into something that resembled a bead. I'm going through the same thing again and at last my class starts Wednesday. Tuesday is being awaited with excitement as well. I finally wised up and enrolled early enough to get into a lost wax casting class. I got a small taste last spring, casting into natural things like broom, spagetti, beans, water.  Not as glamorous as it sounds. You then are challenged with what to do with all the weird little pieces of metal you get, some are very cool, most are not. I hope carving wax isn't too hard. By that I mean, carving a design that looks like what I had in mind.
I continued to attend the Dollie Mamas doll club every month and we had our monthly round robin dolls to exchange. We did a fund raiser for Susan G. Komen at a local art gallery. Gallery 225.  I donated a couple of plates from my fusing class.  I think we raised over $2500.
We had our round robin exchange in November at one of our members houses. We all brought food. We also had a little project of making high heel doll shoes designed by the hostess.  We spent the entire day and it was a good time. I think my doll was one of the best ones made by all those who participated.  In December we had our Xmas doll exchange and party.  I chose not to do the exchange, but I must say the dolls made were awesome.  Each participant supplied materials in a bag with their name in the bag, the bags were collected and somehow tagged and redistributed among those doing the exchange in a manner that no one would know who had whose bag. It was really fun to see the results.
When not working on some art thing, I watched a lot, I repeat, a LOT of movies and old TV series I had never heard of and some I had but never watched.  I just finished watching the Roswell series. Before that was Veronica Mars, Dead Like Me, Arrested Development, Missing, to name a few.  Great way to waste time. ...thank you Netflicks.
That was my fun for the year.  Something I chose over worrying about not having a job, running out of Cobra and being turned down for health insurance.  I continue to look for work, but am not hopeful. I have pretty much resigned myself to early retirement and pray I don't fall ill or hurt myself.  I can be a klutz!
Here's wishing you a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Just another Sunday.....

Yes, another Sunday quickly dissolving into Monday.. I woke this morning at 7:15 and removed my aching body from my bed and headed for the kitchen to make my weekly ritual pot of coffee. This week it is Tanzania Peaberry freshly ground. Who knows how fresh the beans are; since they were purchased at Target. It's not as mild as the Costa Rica peaberry I buy from Gevalia. Maybe that has to do with freshness, maybe not, since I have no idea how fresh Gevalia's coffee is. Another ritual is reading the Sunday paper and browsing ads that I have no intention of taking advantage of since most of the ads are the same every week and don't really offer any true savings. I've begun to wonder why I bother, perhaps just to waste another day doing nothing of value?
Tonight is the new season of Desparate Housewives. I can't wait. It may be the first night of Dexter too, will have to check. I don't have Showtime, am still debating whether to subscribe for this one show. Seems like such a waste. I subscribe to Netflicks and have gotten more than my share of good use from that less than ten dollar monthly charge. Can't say the same for the Showtime cost of twelve bucks a month for Dexter and movies I've seen or don't care to see. I don't think they change their movie list ever, just rotate the same old movies every few months and call them new. I swear they even change the names and think we won't notice.
God, it's already 1:50 p.m. and here I sit. I am enjoying a rather unusual mix of music from Pandora via my Netflix/Roku subscription. Haven't even gotten to the ads in the paper yet. I got side tracked for whatever reason googling my own name and then playing around with my blogsite. I thought they were supposed to have added new features to use for creating a blog. It seems to me the template choices are far less. I still have trouble with it. Talk about wasting a few hours.
So this is how my Sundays usually go. All the passing notions of calling a friend or relative or starting/finishing a project or God forbid, cleaning house, are just that, a passing notion,  forgotten in the next turned page of an advertisement or in the change of a TV channel, the flush of the toilet or the urging of the dog to refill his bowl. So goes my Sunday and
On to Monday and finding new ways to wile away the hours.
